Professional Well Inspection Services

A private well can appear to be working normally while still having problems with water supply, recharge, pressure, or equipment.

Hawk Drilling Company provides professional well inspection services to evaluate the condition and performance of your well, pump, pressure system, and water supply.

Whether you’re buying a home or investigating changes in an existing well, our team can help you understand what is happening below the surface.

What Does a Well Inspection Include?

A proper well inspection looks at more than whether water comes out of the faucet.

Well Head & Casing

We inspect the accessible well head, external casing, well cap, and surrounding area for visible concerns that could affect the well.

Water Level & Recharge

Hawk measures the static water level before pumping, monitors the water level during testing, and measures how quickly the well refills afterward.

Pump & Pressure System

The pump and pressure tank are evaluated as part of the inspection to help determine how the complete water system is performing.

Why Well Recharge Matters

The amount of water stored in a well is not the same as the amount of water the well can consistently produce.

A deep well may hold a significant volume of water but refill slowly after that water is used. Simply running faucets during a standard home inspection may not reveal this.

Hawk uses an in-well water level meter while pumping to track changes in water level and recovery. This provides a clearer picture of both the available water and the well’s ability to recharge.

When Should You Schedule a Well Inspection?

A professional water well inspection can be useful when:

  • Buying a home with a private well
  • Water pressure or volume has decreased
  • Water quality has suddenly changed
  • You do not know the condition of an existing well
  • You are experiencing recurring water-supply problems

The information collected during the inspection can help determine whether further service or testing is needed.

Buying a Home With a Private Well?

A standard home inspection may confirm that the faucets work, but that does not necessarily tell you how the well performs over time.

A well inspection can provide useful information about water levels, recovery, pump performance, pressure equipment, and visible well conditions before you purchase the property.

Hawk can also arrange additional water sampling upon request, including testing through a New York State-certified laboratory.

Well Inspection FAQs

What is included in a well inspection?

Hawk evaluates accessible well components, including the well head and casing, along with the pump and pressure tank. Water levels and recharge are also measured to help determine how the well performs.

How do you test how much water a well can provide?

Hawk measures the static water level, monitors the level while the well is being pumped, and then measures how quickly the water level recovers. This helps show both available water and recharge performance.

Should I get a well inspection before buying a home?

Yes. A well inspection can provide information about the condition and performance of a private water supply that may not be available from a standard home inspection.

Does a well inspection include water testing?

Hawk evaluates physical water characteristics during the inspection. Additional sampling for bacteria, nitrates, lead, arsenic, fluoride, and other parameters can be arranged upon request through a New York State-certified laboratory.

What happens if a well inspection finds a problem?

The next step depends on what the inspection finds. Possible solutions may include pump changes, water storage, well rehabilitation, deepening, water treatment, or additional investigation.
